Highlights of the GriffinSports 16U Baseball Season
On 7/15 The GriffinSports 17U Baseball Team defeated Premier Baseball 6-5. Highlights for GriffinSports were:

Rodney Bassett who pitched four strong innings and had two hits and two RBIs
- Ardell Cloud who had two RBIs.
- Andrew Pollock who had a hit and a great catch in right field.
- Alex Wojtala who was lights out in relief, pitching three shut-out innings for his fourth victory of the season.
- Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. who had a hit and scored a run.
- Alejandro Gonzalez Jr., Ardell Cloud and CJ Griffin turned the eighth GriffinSports doubleplay of the season when they turned a “clutch” 6-4-3 doubleplay in the sixth inning.
- Also, Jonathon Griebel, who will be playing with our 15U team in the CABA High School World Series pitched his best game of the year tonight. A two hit, seven inning complete game (3-0) shut-out against a Mid Ohio Bullets team that won the U16 State Tournament.
- And, Lucas Daugherty who will be playing with our 15U team in the CABA High School World Series, pitched a complete game against the Central Ohio Select giving up no earned runs in a 4-1 victory.
On 7/5 The GriffinSports 16U Baseball Team lost to North Royalton 6-4. Highlights for GriffinSports were:

Alex Wojtala who is now hitting a season high (.333) had two hits and scored a run. Alex who leads the team in innings (40) and strikeouts (23) pitched seven innings and lowered his team leading ERA (3.68) when he allowed two earned runs and five strikeouts.
- Ardell Cloud who leads the team in hitting (.451), On Base Percentage (.706) and RBIs (15) had a double, a walk and an RBI.
- Jacob Cantrell who is now second on the team in hitting (.373), second on the team in On Base Percentage (.627), second on the team in runs (12) and second on the team in stolen bases (8) had a hit, scored two runs, had two stolen bases, and an RBI.
- CJ Griffin who is third on the team in RBIs (11) and fourth on the team in On Base Percentage (.500) had a hit and an RBI.
- Javier Camargo who had a hit, scored a run, and a walk.
- Zach Peters, who had six assists at third base.
On 7/3 The GriffinSports 16U Baseball Team swept Lakewood in a doubleheader 15-7 and 14-4. Highlights for GriffinSports were:

Jonathan Griffin who had two hits, a walk and scored three runs.
- Javier Camargo who had three hits including a double, five RBIs, scored two runs and a stolen base
- Joshua Rivers who scored a run and had a walk
- David Pierce who had a hit, scored a run, had a stolen base and a walk. David who is second on the team in innings pitched (24) pitched four innings without giving up an earned run.
- Alex Wojtala, who is now hitting a season high (.311), scored three runs, had two hits, two walks, one stolen base and two RBI’s.
- Jacob Cantrell who is now hitting (.360) had a hit, two walks, scored three runs, had two stolen bases and three RBIs
- Zach Peters, who now has a seven game hitting streak, scored three runs, had three hits, including a double, two walks, five stolen bases, including home and three RBIs. Zach got his second win of the season when he pitched three innings only allowing two earned runs.
- Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. who leads the team in runs (15) and stolen bases (15) , scored five runs, had seven stolen bases, two hits including a triple and three walks. Alejandro also gave up two earned runs in three innings of pitching.
- Kevin Keane who is second on the team in hitting (.375) and second in On-Base percentage (.604) scored three runs, had four hits, two walks and four RBIs
- Chris Grillo who scored three runs, had two hits, one walk and an RBI.
- Brandon Evans who had five hits including a double and five RBIs while catching both games of the doubleheader.
- Alex Wojtala, Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. and David Pierce turned an impressive 1-4-3 doubleplay. It was the seventh doubleplay of the season.
The GriffinSports 15U Baseball Team played in the 15u State Tournament this past weekend and finished 1-4. Highlights for GriffinSports were:
- Kevin Keane who hit .600 in the tournament (9-15) including two doubles, scored three runs, four walks, one RBI and one stolen base. Kevin is now second on the team in hitting (.378).Kevin also made a game saving play at second base when he started a doubleplay in the bottom of the seventh inning.
- Ardell Cloudwho leads the team in hitting (.442) and On-Base Percentage (.698)had four hits including a double, three RBIs, five walks including an intentional walk and scored a run. But most amazingly Ardell caught every inning of the entire tournament when he had to battle the 90+ degree temperatures for three days in a row.
- Jacob Cantrell who is second on the team with a (.526) On-base percentage, had four hits, scored two runs, four walks, one stolen base and an RBI.
- CJ Griffin who is third on the team with a (.512) On-Base percentage and second on the team in runs (8) had four hits, three walks, scored five runs, two RBIs and a stolen base. CJ was also the winning pitcher when with one out and the winning run on third base he pitched out of the jam forcing the game into extra innings.
- Zach Peters, who leads the team in ERA (3.50) took a perfect game into the fifth inning in game one, he also had three hits and four RBIs
- Alex Wojtala, who is second on the team in ERA (4.10) and leads the team in strikeouts (16) pitched 10 innings and had six strikeouts. He also had three hits, scored three runs, two walks and an RBI.
- Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. who leads the team in stolen bases (8), and runs scored (10), had two doubles, three stolen bases, scored two runs, two walks and two RBIs
On 6/30 The GriffinSports 16U Baseball Team lost to North Royalton 3-2. Highlights for GriffinSports were:
In a game that took only one hour and fifteen minutes:
- David Pierce who is second on the team in innings pitched (20), only allowed one earned run in 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts and no walks.
- Alex Wojtala, who lowered his team leading ERA (3.74) allowed no earned runs in 1 2/3 innings and added to his team lead in strikeouts (18) with two.
- Jacob Cantrell who is now hitting (.350) had a hit, a walk, scored a run and had two stolen bases
- Ardell Cloud who leads the team in RBIs (13) had a hit and an RBI.
- Andrew Samoson who is now hitting (.400) had two hits.
- CJ Griffin who is tied for the team lead in walks (8), scored a run, had a stolen base and a walk.
- Zach Peters, who is fourth on the team in hits (11) had a hit and a stolen base.
- Kevin Keane and Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. turned the fifth double play of the season with a nice 6-4 doubleplay.
On 6/29 The GriffinSports 16U Baseball Team lost to Premier Baseball 17-7. Highlights for GriffinSports were:
- Ardell Cloud who leads the team in hitting, (.449) and RBIs (15) had two hits including a triple, scored two runs and two RBIs
- David Kowalski who leads the team in slugging (.579) had two doubles, scored two runs and an RBI.
- Alex Wojtala, who had two hits, a walk and an RBI.
- Jacob Cantrell who is now hitting (.372) had two hits, scored a run and a stolen base.
- Jake Dersi who had a hit, an RBI, scored a run and a stolen base. Jake also pitched three innings with one strikeout.
- Zach Peters who has a five game hitting streak, had a hit, scored a run, and an RBI.
- Zach Peters, Kevin Keane and Alex Wojtala who turned the sixth doubleplayof the season with a nice 6-4-3 doubleplay.
On 6/21 GriffinSports lost to Berea 5-4. Highlights for GriffinSports were:
- Alex Wojtala who had two hits and scored a run. Alex lowered his team low ERA ( 2.95), by pitching another complete game (3). Alex also leads the team in strikeouts (10).
- Wilson Santos who is now second on the team in hitting with a .357 batting average had two hits and a run scored.
- Kevin Keane who is tied for the team lead in doubles (3) had a double, scored a run, had a walk and an RBI.
- Ardell Cloud who leads the team with a .455 batting average, leads the team in hits (15), tied for the team lead in RBIs (8) had a two hits and an RBI.
- Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. who leads the team in runs scored (8), scored a run, had a walk and an RBI.
- CJ Griffin andJavier Camargoturned the fourth GriffinSports doubleplay of the season with a nice unassisted 6-3 double play.
On 6/15 GriffinSports lost both games of a doubleheader, to the Keystone Wild Cats. Highlights for GriffinSports were:
- Will Wagner who threw one shut-out inning.
- Andrew Samoson who is second on the team in hitting with a .353 batting averageand third on the team with (5) RBIs had a hit and two RBIs.
- Javier Camargo who had a sacrifice fly for an RBI.
- Ardell Cloud who leads the team with a .443 batting average, leads the team in hits (13), second on the team in runs scored (6) and second on the team in RBIs (7), had a hit, scored a run and had an RBI.
On 6/13 GriffinSports lost both games of a doubleheader, 8-4 and 5-4 in 8 innings to the Middleburg Hts. Hurricanes. Highlights for GriffinSports were:
- Alex Wojtala who had three hits including a double and two RBIs.
- CJ Griffin who had two hits, including a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI.
- Jacob Cantrell who had two hits, scored a run and a walk.
- Jonathan Molnar who had two hits and an RBI.
- Zach Peters who had three hits, including a double, scored a run, had a walk and an RBI.
- David Kowalski who pitched eight innings only giving up three earned runs and two strikeouts.
On 6/12 GriffinSports lost both games of a doubleheader to the Brookpark Warriors. Highlights for GriffinSports were:
- Alex Wojtala who pitched seven strong innings, giving up two runs and striking out five.
- CJ Griffin who had two hits, including a double, a stolen base, a run scored and two RBIs.
- Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. who pitched three innings only giving up one run and one strikeout. Alejandro also had two hits, scored a run on a wild pitch, an RBI and nearly made a diving catch in centerfield.
- Jonathan Molnar who had a hit, scored two runs, had two walks and a stolen base.
- Ardell Cloud who had three hits and a run scored.
- Andrew Samoson who had two hits, including a double and nailed a runner trying to steal second base.
- Kevin Keane who had two hits including a double, a run scored and threw a runner out at home trying to score from second base.
On 6/9 GriffinSports was defeated by Premier Baseball. Highlights for GriffinSports were:
- Jake Cantrell who had two hits and a run scored.
- CJ Griffin who had a hit, two stolen bases and two RBIs.
- CJ Griffin, Kevin Keane and Alex Wojtala nearly turned the third 6-4-3 doubleplay on the young season.
On 6/8 GriffinSports defeated Berea 7-3. Highlights for GriffinSports were:
- Jake Cantrell who had two hits, scored two runs and had two RBIs including a perfectly executed squeeze play.
- Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. who scored three runs, had two walks, two stolen bases and a hit.
- Kevin Keane who had one hit, scored two runs, two walks and one stolen base. Kevin also turned an impressive 6-4-3 doubleplay with a bare-hand pivot at second base.
- CJ Griffin, Kevin Keane and Alex Wojtala for turning a nice 6-4-3 doubleplay.
- Zach Peters, who tweaked his hamstring in the first inning, pitched a complete game (105 pitches) not giving up an earned run and striking out three.
On 6/5 GriffinSports split a doubleheader with The West Akron A’s, losing the first game 3-2 and winning the night cap 9-5. Highlights for GriffinSports were:

Ardell Cloud who had four hits, including a double, scored two runs and had three RBI’s.

Andrew Samoson who had two hits including a double and three RBI’s.

Zach Peters who had two hits including a double and two RBI’s.

Alex Wojtala only needed 64 pitches to pitch a complete game.

Wil Wagner gave up one earned run in three innings for the first GriffinSports win of the season

On 5/25 GriffinSports lost both games of a doubleheader to a very good 16U Up to Bat Titans team. Highlights for GriffinSports were:

Ardell Cloud had two hits, scored a run and had an RBI single.

CJ Griffin had an RBI double.

David Kowalski had two doubles, scored two runs and one RBI.

Kevin Keane scored two runs.

The Westside Hornets defeated GriffinSports 8-4 in Game One of the GriffinSports 18U Baseball Tournament. Highlights from Game One were:
- From the West-Side Hornets, Billy Valletto (Who will be playing college baseball next year at Cuyahoga Community College), pitched seven strong innings with 10 strikeouts. Cincinnati Reds prospect Mike Hollick went 4-4 with two triples, a double, a single, a stolen base and four RBIs. Mike also saved a run with a diving catch on a sinking line drive in center-field.
- From GriffinSports, Ardell Cloud had two hits and scored a run. Rodney Bassett pitched seven strong innings only giving up three earned runs with four strikeouts.
The Blue Wave defeated The Westside Hornets 15-9 in Game Two of the GriffinSports 18U Baseball Tournament. Highlights from Game Two were:
- From the West-Side Hornets, Cincinnati Reds prospect Mike Hollick went 2-3 with a triple. Mike is now hitting .857 in the tournament. Jake Hannum pitched five strong innings for the no-decision.
- From The Blue Wave, Joe Bernabei hit two triples and a double. Matt Litty was 3-4. Jake Hyer was the winning pitcher in relief pitching three innings without giving up an earned run.
The Blue Wave defeated Cleveland RBI 11-3 in Game Three of the GriffinSports 18U Baseball Tournament. Highlights from Game Three were:
- From the Blue Wave, Doug Dorsey pitched five strong innings giving up no earned runs and four strikeouts.
- From Cleveland RBI, Jordan Durham pitched three shut-out innings.
Cleveland RBI defeated GriffinSports 15-3 in Game Four of the GriffinSports 18U Baseball Tournament. Highlights from Game Four were:
- From Cleveland RBI, David Goodgame had five RBI’s including a bases loaded triple, a single and scored two runs. Jeremiah Thomsen pitched four inning without giving up an earned run.
- From GriffinSports, Nolan Grenig had an RBI single and scored a run.
The Westside Hornets defeated Cleveland RBI 4-1 in Game Five of the GriffinSports 18U Baseball Tournament. Highlights from Game Five were:
- From the Westside Hornets, Kyle Kvasnicka pitched six innings (90 pitches) giving up one run with five strikeouts. Zack Hausmann had two hits including a double and he scored a run. Mike Hollick had two hits including a stand-up triple.
- From Cleveland RBI, Nick Riolo from Michgan State pitched six innings, six strikeouts, giving up three earned runs. Michael Burke from Buffalo University had two hits. Andy Garcia from Cuyahoga Community College had two hits.
The Blue Wave defeated GriffinSports 8-5 in Game Six of the GriffinSports 18U Baseball Tournament. Highlights from Game Six were:
- From the Blue Wave , Doug Dorsey had two walks and scored two runs. Cody Timosko had two hits and scored two runs.
- From GriffinSports, Nolan Greng had two hits, including a double and scored a run. Ardell Cloud had two hits, two walks had an RBI and scored a run. Rodney Bassett pitched six solid inning with four strikeouts.
The Championship! Game Seven.
Congratulations to the WestSide Hornets and the Blue Wave for a great Championship game. The Hornets did a great job, jumping out to an 8-2, 6th inning lead and were on the brink of run-ruling the Blue Wave. But, the Blue Wave showed the “Heart of a Champion” and scored nine unanswered runs in the 6th and 7th innings to take an 11-8, 7th inning lead. Even though , the Hornets trailed 11-8 in the bottom of the seventh, they refused to quit, they scored a run and had the tying run on base before the Blue Wave got the final out. Great Job to both teams!!! Highlights from The Championship Game were:
- From the Westside Hornets, shortstop Jack Hannum was 4-4, scored three runs and one RBI. Zack Hausmann had one hit, two RBIs and scored two runs. Frank Zelley, 6 2/3 inning (94 pitches), five earned runs, four strikeouts
- From The Blue Wave, Tournament MVP Doug Dorsey hit a three run homerun.

Schedule
We will have two pools of three. The top two teams in each pool will advance to the championship round. The top seed in Pool A will play the second seed in Pool B. The top seed in Pool B will play the second seed in Pool A with the winners playing in the championship. The third place teams in each pool will play each other in the fifth place game.
In the event of a tie we will use the following tie-breakers

Rules
All players must be 16 years or younger. The cutoff date is May 1st 2010. Each coach if challenged must show proof of his players age.
We will play by American League rules with the following exceptions;
-
15 run rule after three innings.
-
12 run rule after four innings.
-
10 run rule after five innings
-
No malicious contact
-
Force-play slide rule is in effect
-
Each team may bat ten players by using an additional hitter (AH).
-
Home team will be determined by coin flip
-
Courtesy runner for pitcher and catcher at any time. Cannot be someone currently in the game…same runner cannot be used twice in the same inning.
Each manager may vote for two players after his game for the All-Tournament Team and Tournament MVP. Plaques will be presented to our All-Tournament Team and Tournament MVP before the Championship Game.
Players are expected to hustle on and off the field. Except in a tie, no new inning may start two hours after the first pitch.
All on field discrepencies will be handled by the Umpire-In-Chief. If their is still a doubt, then the Tournament Director will make the final call. There will be no protests.
There will be a full concession stand and restroom facilities.
Please remember we will be playing at a Christian School. No profanity or unsportmanlike behavior will be tolerated.
